Tulsi Herbal Wall Hanging "DAWN"
The Tulsi Herbal Wall Hanging "DAWN"
❂
Inspired by the abstract nature and colour of sunlight, translating light onto cloth through immersion with plants, recognising their healing and historical properties to create beautiful items for daily use and ritual.
❂
Tulsi/Tulasi also known as Holy Basil, is revered for its many health-supporting properties in Ayurvedic and Western Herbalism. A spiritual symbol in Hindu Culture
it is also used in sacred ritual offerings and as a household herb. In Sanskrit, Tulasi means “that which is incomparable."
❂
Each Herbal Wall Hanging is created by sourcing a reclaimed textile, generally silk, wool, or cotton. The cloth is placed into a hot Herbal (Tulsi) immersion as a base layer and left overnight, along with the cord for mounting. After removal it can then be painted or printed on with other botanical dyes and minerals. The cloth has another Herbal immersion, this time cold and also left overnight. Finally, Tasmanian Oak, polished with natural beeswax oil, is used to clamp the cloth for mounting.
